Broome’s Village Hall is the centre of activities in this vibrant village. It has a fully equipped catering kitchen, mobile stage, subtle coloured spot lighting and a built in sound system, plus strip lighting for those who prefer a brighter setting, so is perfect for group activities and social events. During the past year the hall has been decorated inside and out, has had a heating system upgrade and been connected to the mains sewer bringing this valuable community asset truly into the 21st century.

To hold your own events book the hall through:

Broome Village hall is open for groups and activities as usual, the committee is following all government guidelines and hirers are reminded of their responsibilities under those guidelines.

During this current uncertainty, can we please ask that if you use the hall, that upon completion of your activities that as well as all the usual stuff of cleaning up and lights off and securing the building that you also remember to turn the heating down as well.
The cost of fuel and electricity is extremely high as everyone knows and with your help we can ensure that we run the hall as efficiently as possible within the resources that we have.

The hall can be booked through our booking clerk Julie Pilgrim 01986 894023 or through our website www.broomevillagehall.com

Winter continues on, thankfully we haven’t had any dreaded snow so far, but it is still continuously cold. We all know that the price of heating oil and electricity is going up in leaps and bounds ( over 200% in the last year) and unlike a residential property, the village hall does not have the luxury of a price cap on its heating and electricity.

Since December, the village hall has paid out in the region of £1500 in oil and electricity prices and this is unsustainable in the long run. So it makes me sad that some users of the hall are so blasé with our resources.

A recent user group hiring the hall for about 6 hours, in a mistaken belief that as they had several vulnerable people in their group should turn the heating up high to keep warm but should also open all of the windows wide to maintain a flow of air to reduce the risk of COVID. All this did was, agreed, reduce the risk of COVID but also waste all of the heat straight out of the windows.

Please, please, you wouldn’t do this at home, can we ask that you think about the costs. We have kept hire charges frozen again this year for the regular user groups so that the whole community benefits from the hall but it needs to be able to operate within its budget.
Inevitably we would have to start thinking of raising a surcharge for heating and we certainly would want to go down that road as all this would do is punish the other user groups, some of whom are not in a position to pay anymore than they already do.
Thank you for your consideration.
