Our Robin Class (reception and year 1) learnt the days of the week in French and ordered these. We wrote some colours in French and English and coloured a block of that colour and read and learnt the story ‘La chenille qui fait des trous’ de Eric Carle before writing the story for ourselves. The children also enjoyed marking places on a map that speak French and we looked at the different flags and coloured some of them in.

Our Woodpecker class (years 2 and 3) explored the countries of Europe using atlases and google maps and created a fact file about several of the countries. The children found out the language spoken, the capital city, the traditional food and other interesting facts we also enjoyed learning how to say ‘hello’ and ‘goodbye’ in different European languages.

Our children in Barn Owls class (years 4 and 5) investigated where French is spoken throughout the world and discovered that over 220 million people speak French as a first language. We practised colours in French and spent time singing French songs. We started with the classic Frere Jaque – managing to sing the round in 4 parts, which was excellent. We then enjoyed a fun song about the colours before singing the French version of the rainbow song and practising the colours in French at the same time.

In Golden Eagles class (year 6), we had an introduction to Spanish! We recited the alphabet and numbers in Spanish and some common Spanish greetings and phrases. We also learned what different items found around our classroom are called and played some interactive Spanish games including ordering days of the week, colour bingo and a matching numbers game.

The whole school really enjoyed learning about different languages.

Ditchingham Primary School are collecting the Aldi’s Kit for Schools stickers and if anyone has any we would be grateful if they could drop these in at the school office.

Many thanks
